Pre-Sales Manager Europe (director level)

The company was founded in January 2001 with a mission to design, build and market carrier-class core switching network elements for supporting enhanced voice and data services across next generation packet-based mobile networks. The headquarters is in the USA, and currently we have around 60 employees, a number that is steadily growing each month. The company is backed by leading venture capital firms including Sequioa Capital, Austin Venturs, Genesis Campus and Quallcom Ventures.

The company's engineers all have extensive background in the GSM, GPRS, CDMA, UMTS, SS7 and IP markets, gained at companies such as Nortel, Ericsson, Alcatel/DSC, Cisco, Sonus Networks and others. With this combined talent pool, we have been able to develop a revolutionary technology for mobile core networks, which is attracting interest globally from the largest players in the mobile market, including leading GSM operators.

We holds unique IPR which differentiates the company's products from all existing solutions currently on the market or in development. Its products can be deplopyed in today's GSM/GPRS and CDMA, as well as in tomorrow's UMTS networks. The first customer trial started in December 2001 with an Asian GSM operator.

Our activities have started in October 2001 with the appointment of a Business Development director for Europe, and following the successful introduction to the European market the company is now looking to expand its presence with an experienced, senior individual with strong technical skills combined with a commercial attitude.

The Pre-Sales Manager will work closely with the Business Development Director Europe and US-based business development team to promote our solutions across Europe.

Main responsibilities:

  • Work closely with the Business Development Director to build up the European market by building customer relations and closing business contracts.
  • Give technical presentations, present the values of the company's products (e.g. using business case analysis) at the highest level of the organisation and explain how the solution would meet customer requirements.
  • Qualify the client's specific needs and give recommendations on how our offerings meet these needs.
  • Respond to bid for tenders, define the solution and work on the financial proposal.
  • Co-ordinate the technical support team during the course of the installation.
  • Assist with marketing activities, e.g. through conference presentations.
  • Work closely with the business development team and systems engineering team in the US.
  • Provide management team and peers with regular project status, customer/prospects feedback and requirements on product evolution.

Technical Knowledge and Experience:

  • The candidate will be expected to have a minimum of 6-8 years experience with operators in the telecommunication business, with a minimum of 2 years related to the GSM market.
  • A thorough understanding of mobile communication networks, specifically GSM, GPRS and UMTS, is essential.
  • Working experience with protocols such as SS7, MAP, and SCCP would be a strong plus.
  • An understanding of and working experience with IP would be a plus.


Reporting Structure:


We are looking for mature individuals with very strong technical skills and experience in the mobile industry, and a proven ability to build long-term customer relationships. Candidates with such a profile are unlikely to perform at their best in a rigid, hierarchical organization structure, certainly given the level of self-motivation and discipline required for this role. During the first phase of growth in Europe, the European team will consist of peers who use each others' expertise to achieve maximum impact. The position is in the business development team, headed up by the VP Product Management and Business Development based in Richardson. Official reporting lines are to be agreed based on further discussions between the candidate and the existing team.

Experience, Mindset and Education Background:

  • The candidate will have a BSc or MSc degree or equivalent in engineering or computer science.
  • Prerequisite for this role is a number of years' experience promoting infrastructure products to operators, preferably for one of the mobile systemS vendors.
  • He/She will be customer oriented with excellent communication and presentation skills. The ideal candidate will be a strong team player and keen to generate new business.
  • Self motivated, energetic, and open-minded the candidate will show initiative and leadership skills.
  • The candidate must be prepared to work in a very dynamic and fast growing environment
  • Fluency in English, both verbally and in writing, is essential. A second European language would be a plus.
Other:
  • This position requires regular travel throughout Europe and to the US.
  • Candidate will be expected to be able to work from home for a number of days per week.
